Lavoir Conversations: What if we reinvented the suburbs?
Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Free with reservation

A series of works portraying the Paris suburbs – les banlieues – in fiction paint these neighborhoods in a fresh light while dispelling common misconceptions and stereotypes.

Kaspar Ravel, Derive, 2020

Drawing from references with deep local roots, the artists blur the lines between dream and reality. They reinterpret forms and materials specific to the capital’s suburbs – concrete buildings, transit infrastructure, and areas undergoing a transformation – which become artistic and narrative motifs to build on or question.

The depictions of this space reveal issues and challenges, but mainly the beauty and poetry that permeate the banlieues. The exhibition invites us to picture potential suburbs that actually exist.

→ Guided tour and Reinventing the Banlieue discussion in conjunction with the exhibition at Lavoir Numérique on Thursday 16 October 2025 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm
