The body becomes an interface and language in this virtual reality experience. A collective exploration of movement transforms the group’s actions into dancing avatars that reconnect us with ourselves and those around us.
While excessive use of digital technology can lead to dissociation and depersonalization, Collective Body uses virtual reality to forge a deep connection with the corporeal experience, shedding filters and strictures.
Artificial intelligence analyzes participants’ movements in real time, to generate a unique avatar inspired by a natural element (embers, clouds, dust or rain, for example). Outside of the headsets, these dancing avatars animate a media wall, a collective body in perpetual motion formed by this decentralized dance installation created by and for participants.
