The Phantasmata exhibition lies somewhere between dream and reality, leading to a loss of bearings. Presented at Galerie Charlot, Éric Vernhes’s works feature phantoms, mental images and strange tales – echoes of our imagination in motion.

Every work in this exhibition seems to come alive. The moving sounds, images and words conjure familiar visions in new, sometimes disturbing forms.

Drawing from multiple inspirations – namely traveling writer Paul Bowles, philosopher Gaston Bachelard, and a fictional artist invented during lockdown – Éric Vernhes zeroes in on tipping points: a pause, a doubt, an unspoken thought. Phantasmata explores these floating points when the line between reality and imagination blurs, opening up a space where people can project their own stories.
