In France, the banlieues, or suburbs, are often depicted in a caricatured image that reduces their residents to clichés. Held in conjunction with the Banlieue: Fiction Territory exhibition, this Rencontres du Lavoir event is an opportunity to change perspectives through a conversation on the state of contemporary audiovisual creation.
The participants in the roundtable will share their thoughts on new formats that offer a different take on these neighborhoods: films, podcasts, web series, video games, and virtual reality experiences.
These works grapple with systemic challenges while also telling authentic stories, in an exploration of possible futures enabling local populations to take back control of the narrative about them.
