During a blistering summer in the San Francisco Bay, surrounded by forest fires, activist journalist Ada reunites with her father Georges, a former IT engineer. Two generations and thirty years of silence come to a head.
Ada and Georges haven’t seen each other since mother’s death thirty years ago. They lost each other in the cracks of everything left unsaid, the buried dreams of their youth, the utopias of the seventies, all the other possible worlds… and also in the cracks of our current world, a place of imminent disasters, widespread surveillance, and fatalism.
Father and daughter have it out in a tit-for-tat of two generations on different sides of the digital revolution. Against a backdrop of burning trees, they attempt to reconnect. George drinks to forget his past. Ada takes LSD to unlock the gates of memory. She comes back to rewrite the story, because everything could have been different – everything can be different.
The closing weekend of the 2025 Némo Biennial, titled Out of Time, explores time as the raw material of every utopia. At the heart of three shows and performances, past and future intertwine through digital arts, transformed into a living link between heritage and the technological age.
