ISRAEL GALVÁN + YCAM : Israel & Israel
From Thursday 24 to Saturday 26 October 2019
Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris
101 bis Quai Branly
This event brings together a choreographic performance and a discussion between Israel Galván and Nao Tokui (Qosmo) who is a Japanese specialist of artificial intelligence.
“’What does the machine understand about dance?” That’s what the engineers of the Japanese institute YCAM (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media) have attempted to find out. Specialised in the relationship between art and new technology, fascinated by the dancer Israel Galván, they wanted to teach his unique language to an artificial intelligence.
“Inspiring the dancer by speaking his language, sending him new and surprising impulsions, these machines have become the object of a performance where dance meets a futuristic reflection… that is deliberately vertiginous.” (Lola Gruber)
